International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the most prestigious contest for pre-university students.  More than 100 participating countries send a team of up to six students, plus one team leader, one deputy leader, and observers.

Mathematics professor Rustam Turdibaev has been the team leader of Uzbekistan for IMO since 2019. This year he is also part of the national team and is participating as an observer A. He has been actively involved in the team selection process in Uzbekistan for IMO, by proposing Olympiad problems for all stages of the selection, grading and coordinating problems with the help of the Ministry of Public Education. Once the team has been formed, Dr. Turdibaev held numerous training sessions for the selected participants and the additional promising younger math enthusiast.

On 19-20 July, a team of Uzbekistan competed internationally in the two-day long contest, held at Romanovskiy Institute of Mathematics and supervised online by the organizers of IMO.

Each day, contestants are given three problems and four and a half hours to work. Due to the global pandemic, the last two IMOs has been conducted online and each team has been assigned a fair play referee – an IMO Commissioner.

The IMO Commissioner will work with the IMO Ethics Committee as necessary to ensure the exams are conducted properly and that the IMO Ethics Committee is provided with any necessary information. This is a person of good reputation and this year, another professor of AKFA University – Dr. Farkhod Eshmatov has been assigned to this task.

We wish the national team of Uzbekistan at IMO good luck.
