Students of AKFA University familiarize themselves with SDGs
Students of the AKFA University received knowledge about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On 17 November 2020, the Student Council of AKFA University invited the UN SDG Youth Advocate Nigina Sodikova to the university to hold presentation about the SDGs.
In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on the principle of “leaving no one behind”, the new agenda emphasizes a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all.
The Government of Uzbekistan committed to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015. In 2018, 16 national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 125 corresponding targets were adopted. Simultaneously, an inter-agency Coordination Council for implementing the national SDG Roadmap was established.
During the presentation, Nigina Sodikova introduced the students of the AKFA University to the SDGs and the main goals with which the UN works and will work in next 10 years. The session was organized in interactive form and involved all participants.
After the session, the students of the AKFA University decided to create an AU team in the UN to work for the people of Uzbekistan and the planet. Interested students could join the AU Team via the Student Council.
